There's some very useful tricks which can be done with your rFactor .PLR file located in:
\rFactor\UserData\your name\your name.PLR

You can open this file in notepad and change a few settings, here are the ones I tweak to make rFactor a bit better. The quoted options are what I suggest it's set to.

Virtual Rear View in Cockpit
This is a must, which is why it's red - I think there should be a server setting where this is forced, but there isn't. A lot of incidents can be avoided if a driver uses the virtual rear view mirror in cockpit as the standard "in-car" rear view and wing mirrors are useless and have huge blind spots. Using the virtual rear view you can see what's happening behind you so much better, also you know if there's a car on your inside as they eliminate most of the blind spots, they're also bigger so are much easier to glance at and to see in general.

Change this line to "1" in your .PLR file (default is 0)

Rearview="1" // 0=Off, 1=Center and Side, 2=Center only, 3=Side only (virtual mirrors only, in-car mirrors are on/off)

Disable cockpit camera "head" vibrations
If like me you don't like the head movement in cockpit you can disable it by settings these 4 lines to 0.

Cockpit Vibration Mult1="0.00000" // Primary vibration multiplier affects eyepoint position (base magnitude is in VEH or cockpit file)
Cockpit Vibration Freq1="0.00000" // Primary rate of vibration affects eyepoint position (higher framerates allow higher rates)
Cockpit Vibration Mult2="0.00000" // Secondary vibration multiplier affects eyepoint orientation (base magnitude is in VEH or cockpit file)
Cockpit Vibration Freq2="0.00000" // Secondary rate of vibration affects eyepoint orientation
Replay letterboxing
To disable the letterboxing effect in replays (black bars top and bottom of screen) change this from "1" to "0":

Allow Letterboxing="0" // whether we allow letterboxing (during replays, for example)
Controller.ini
This is in the same directory as your .plr file, and there's 1 tweak I make to this file which is quite useful.

Change in-game steering wheel rotation
You can set this to the rotation of your wheel so the in-game wheel mirrors what you do. It puts me off big time when these don't match!

Steering Wheel Range="360" // Degrees of rotation of in-game steering wheel

can you not switch the steering wheel of altogether Chris? in reality your eyeline would be looking past it anyway.

I always use the hood view to be honest.. most rfactor car cockpit view i find do not reflect what you would actually be focused on if you were in the driving seat anyway. That and field of view restrictions set by a small monitor Wink

You can, it's in the in-game display settings I think.

I use bonnet view too for serious racing, but most people probably don't which is the main reason for outlining virtual mirrors as you don't get them by default in cockpit, it needs this .plr edit.
