Next big thing?

So where do you think the future of Sim Racing lies post Rfactor? This is not necessarily linked to the league future software but getting an idea where people are looking to next for their future sim-racing kicks.

I only learnt of PC and AC from looking at VirtualR the other week and got lost in all the goings on.

I've tried iRacing before which I enjoyed for the serious side but less for the social side. I haven't seen anything on the modability of PC or AC though, as I think that's quite a big part of it these days, to be able to drive whatever you like, whenever you want!

Can anyone fill me in on what to expect from the new titles?

My bet is still with rF2 because it's a known platform, ISI are well respected and trusted and it's built from the ground up for modding. Also the minimum specs aren't far off the recommended specs for rF1 which aren't that high in this day and age.

AC looks amazing, but I'm fearing it's not going to feel as good as it looks - yes, they have previous with good physics (anyone who's played NetKar Pro will understand), but after seeing their latest video of an onboard around Monza where a GT2 car was corning and braking like an F1 car would I've lost a fair bit of my enthusiasm for it. Plus it'll need a monster PC to run it properly.

iRacing - I've disagreed with it's model from day 1, and still do now.

pCARS - It's very promising, until my GPU couldn't cope anymore the builds were getting better and better - I await to see what improvements are made in a few weeks (new GPU time coming up!). I don't think it's going to be mod friendly that's unconfirmed though.

Well, if you look at other simracers then rF2 you will notice one thing: You see many cars in all of them, but Touring Cars or better, the upcoming BTCC in rF2, you cant find in any of the other games. For me: rF2, nothing else!

For me I think rF2 has been over complicated.

For example to add a car to a mod in rF1 you would make a folder for the skins, the skins and a VEH. file.

For rF2 you have to do that but also extract the MAS. add the files. Repack the MAS. and add a package file to the game.

How is that making things simple.

Yes for modders it might be easier, but for those of us that like to modify mods, too hard.

For me AC could be the future.

To me its down to modabilty, none off the others have shown anything other than the main platform itself.
dont know of any third party mods link to these sims other than rf2, which i own and am quite impressed with the handling and feel and also the playability factor which gos a long way for me.
As for AC well not sure with that one but looks as if it will look nice but thats about all.
Project cars i am liking alot as well, its more of an intermediate graphical side off things, looks really nice, the feel and handling could do with improvements but is getting there in the latest update. the only thing that puts me off is u now need to download etc thru Steam which i am not partial to .

Any way Max, the packing and unpacking the mas files not to bad once u have done them a few times.

Alan - what's your gripe with Steam? If it's problems you've had with it more than 2-3 years ago, try it again. I have 110 games on Steam (rFactor1+2 being the only one that aren't) and in recent years I've never had a problem with it. It's developed to an excellent platform for gaming, and keeps on getting better. In my opinion Steam is the future of gaming more than the next gen of consoles are.

Had a few hours driving on Netkar again last night for the first time in years, forgot how good it is to drive! If AC is an improvement on that, its going to be fantastic
